Ted Holthaus

9/2/1938 — 7/5/2025

Sept. 2, 1938 – July 5, 2025

———

Ted J. Holthaus passed away peacefully Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Lewiston, at the age of 86.

Ted was born on Sept. 2, 1938, in Fenn, to Al Holthaus and Hattie (Reuter) Holthaus Wimer. He attended St. Gertrude’s Academy in Cottonwood and lived in Cottonwood and Grangeville before settling in Lewiston in 1967.

On June 13, 1959, Ted married the love of his life, Jeanne Forsman. Together they shared 44 beautiful years of marriage before Jeanne’s passing in 2003. Ted missed her dearly every day and often spoke of how he looked forward to being reunited with her and their daughter, Carmen, in Heaven.

Ted is survived by his daughter, Corinne Zenner and her husband Doug, of Culdesac, along with their children, Karey Cannon, Jannelle DeWenter, and Rene Zenner; his son, Gary Holthaus and his wife Marcia, of Clarkston, and their children, Amanda Tripple Peterson and Dayne Holthaus; and his daughter, Carole Woodbridge and her husband Harvey, of Lewiston, and their children, Sarah Dill and Shaun Woodbridge. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne Wimer and his wife Diane, of Boise, and Ed Wimer and his wife Pam, of Moscow. Ted leaves behind many great-grandchildren whom he absolutely adored.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne; their young daughter, Carmen Holthaus; great-granddaughter, Evalynn Mae; brothers, Ronald Holthaus, Larry Wimer and Alan Wimer; sister, Marsha Hall; and his parents and stepfather, Cecil Wimer.

Ted lived a full and joyful life. He was a man of many passions, including fishing, camping, four-wheeling and brewing beer to share with friends and family. His gentle nature and playful spirit shone especially in his love for children and dogs — rarely passing by either without a greeting. Ted was a big kid at heart and brought laughter everywhere he went. His strong work ethic and appreciation for the outdoors were rooted in his childhood, where he spent summers working on his father’s side of the family’s farm and ranch.

Throughout the years, Ted worked at Willett Brothers and Nezperce Tractor. Alongside Jeanne, he co-founded and operated Jeanne’s Custom Draperies for 15 years, retiring in 1999. Earlier in life, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

A devout Catholic, Ted was a former member of St. James Catholic Church and a current member of All Saints Catholic Church, both in Lewiston. He served for many years as a member and officer of the Knights of Columbus.

Ted was the kind of person you could always count on — whether to lend a hand, answer a call, or simply show up when needed. His kindness, loyalty and quiet strength will be missed dearly.

A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 18, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m., at All Saints Catholic Church, 3330 14th St., Lewiston. Father Anthony Ujagbo will officiate. Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewiston Knights of Columbus Council No. 1024.

Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
