Sharon Fitzgerald

2/26/1947 — 6/9/2025

Sharon Kay Mowery Fitzgerald passed away Monday, June 9, 2025, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

Sharon was born in Pontiac, Ill., the middle child of three, on Feb. 26, 1947, to Ross and Anna Margret (Newnam) Mowery. She was raised in Fairbury, Ill., attending Thomas Edison Elementary School and Fairbury/Cropsey High School.

She married Kenneth Fitzgerald on Dec. 24, 1968, in Cornell, Ill. Together they raised three children: Mark (Cindy) Fitzgerald of Clarkston, Shari (Robin) Braun of Mountain View, Hawaii, and Michael Fitzgerald. She established a loving home for her family in Pontiac, 1968-1970; Brunswick, Ga., 1970; NAS Meridian, Miss., 1970-1974; NAS Kingsville, Texas, 1974-1976; Fairbury, 1976-1977; Bend, Ore., 1977-1978; Joliet, Ill., 1978-1982 and Lewiston, 1982-present, as her husband served in the U.S. Navy and pursued his professional career.

She retired on Feb. 1, 2011, after working for the Lewiston Independent School District for 25 years at McGhee Elementary School as a one-on-one special education teacher’s assistant. She’d found her perfect career.

Sharon is survived by her husband; her older brother Jim (Vicki) Mowery of Parker, Colo.; younger brother Kevin Mowery, Long Beach, Calif.; her three children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ross and Anna Margret Mowery.

Her loving attitude and friendly smile could light up a room of strangers. She loved life and lived it on her terms in the same joyous, humble manner she had been taught by her parents. She loved to travel, read, shop and cook. Her family was her greatest passion. She attended and was very active with the Asotin United Methodist Church where she served as secretary for the Asotin United Women In Faith.

A celebration of Sharon’s life at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, at Vassar Rawls Funeral Home, 920 21st Ave., Lewiston, with Pastor Steve Kazda officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
